Introduction to the Dog-Blog

As I said, I’m Raini! I have a lot to share! I’ll start with the basics. I have a human mom, a human dad, a human sister named Isabella, and a snail sister named Smoky. My two sisters will both have their own posts, too. But this blog is mostly about me, of course. *Smiles and does Shepherd Head Tilt*

Meet Smoky!

I’m Smoky W. Mystery! I’m a Black Mystery Snail, and I’m here to post snail facts, my adventures, and the adventures of Wentworth, the Blue Mystery Snail before me. The W in my name actually stands for Wentworth! I like to tinker with and explore the objects in my tank, and I’m writing this from the secret hideout in my tank! Wentworth built it, inside a rock decoration. Also, I can’t wait until the humans start handfeeding me blanched vegetables! It’s a Mystery Snail thing.

“When a Mystery Snail reaches the top of a wall or structure, it will often let go of the wall and glide rapidly downward until it crashes into plants or into the substrate below, often eliciting a “Wheeee!” sound from any witnesses…Its playful behavior makes it more fun to watch than other snails.”

Happy Halloween!

First of all, sorry it’s over a week late. But we’ve been busy lately!

Anyway, the humans started putting out pumpkins. I don’t mean the yummy kind, I mean the glowy plastic kind with the long rubber thing coming out the back. Eventually they also brought in the yummy kind! Isabella started cutting pieces out of them. She even let me lick the juice off of her hand! Then, the next night, the humans all wore odd outfits. Then Isabella and Mom left, while Dad stayed here. Then a bunch of people started coming to the door! Dad gave them some stuff out of a bowl, then they left. After a few minutes, I remembered that this had happened last year, and I calmed down. Smoky suggested I make this post on here, so happy Halloween!

Image Generator Fails #12

This image of a baby zebra is pretty cute…Until you see the hands.
What even is that flag?
The AI Image Generator made a picture of itself making the picture. Messed-up hand included.
I squashed the pumpkin!!! And went insane!
Well, that’s a new way to bake pumpkin seeds!
I’ve been known to carry things ON my shell. But never IN it. Or… fused with it.
Behold, the Mini-Me with 3 Eyes!
Mmmf, mmf, mmmf. (“You have to stir the seeds like so.”) Wait a second… AHH THE OVEN IS ON FIRE!
Am I Daffy Duck now?

Smoky’s Log #15

Part 1: During the humans’ vacation, while they were on the plane, I wanted to see what their little screens could do. Unfortunately, I… may have broken the whole row of screens. Oops… Anyway, I helped the plane humans fix them, and I didn’t break them on the way back. So… all’s well that ends well?

Part 2: To get into the fall mood, I baked some pumpkin seeds!

Part 3: I was exploring one day, when I knocked a pumpkin decoration off of the Halloween spooky tree. I quickly ran and hid in the kitchen light fixture while the humans put the pumpkin back. I just hope they didn’t notice the light flickering because of my slime… Or any pumpkin seeds I may have dropped around the house…

The Humans Came Back!

Oh, did I forget to mention? A few weeks ago, Nana showed up. She’d shown up before and nothing unusual had happened, but this time, everyone started talking about how she’d care for me and Smoky. And yep, the humans left a few days later. They went to someplace Smoky called “Disney World.” I seem to remember that happening once before, too. They actually had a resort with animals like African cranes and baby zebras right outside the window!

They swam in the pool a bit, and went to all the parks. In Animal Kingdom, there were a lot of goats who loved being pet. Now, would you really choose a goat over a German Shepherd?

After about a week there, they came back home. I was certainly very happy to see them!

Failed Images #11

“A Dizzy German Shepherd” is pretty straightforward, but still…

“A German shepherd broke her hairdryer.” Also, she has 5 legs!
Is… is that that one crazy hyena from the Lion King? And why are there bubbles?

“A cat in a dog costume” produced ones that had a “WOOF” name tag, and when I switched to cartoon style, produced a cat in a cat costume.

Cockroaches with their babies produced some…interesting results.

The Queen of Roaches…and not quite what I was looking for.
Seriously, who are these people? And why does he have 3 hands?
Is that Hopper from A Bug’s Life at the bottom?
A container of babies…
*Confused screaming*
Is she going to eat them!?
“Welcome to the house of roaches with deformed mouths!”

Sick turtles are also apparently a hard topic to grasp.

Of course he’s sick if he’s eating whatever that thing is!!!
Why is everyone eating their babies today? And why is the lamp stinky?
One is chewing a metal stick, the other is drooling a tape measure INTO the bed while crying, and there’s a bowl of bones and yarn on the floor.

Finally, a “blank” computer screen produced an epic failure.

If the computer had done that, I would have run away.

Smoky’s Log #14

A while back, I snuck onto the humans’ computer to research a few things. I don’t know what I did, but the computer started running as slow as… well, a snail! (Although aquatic snails like me are pretty fast.) I fixed the slowness, and it seemed fine, until it started acting up again! This time when the humans tried to turn it off and back on again, it wouldn’t boot at all! They blamed the drive, and they got a new one. I managed to get the computer to work long enough to transfer all the data. The humans still can’t figure that one out!

Nature Center #8

The other day Isabella left to head to the nature center. When she arrived, she got a badge and got to sign in– she hadn’t been there since the beginning of summer due to them hosting summer camps. She said hi to all the animals, then misted and cleaned the enclosures. Mystery the water snake had become less shy. The cockroaches were getting a new, larger home, so they could have babies!

Bertha and Dzilla the turtles were both sick–Dzilla has breathing problems, and Bertha has a chronic shell infection. They were both in their “medical tanks” recovering.

The amphibians all got fed, and Spot the salamander took a while to find because he has developed a habit of burying himself in the dirt.

Then she came home, and I was very glad she did. I’m just worried because now I know she’s still going there…

Summer Update

First, apologies. I haven’t been posting because the humans have been very busy.

Isabella had a lot of zoo visits, including an end-of-summer party and a tour of the zoo for some teens who volunteered at another zoo. (Who knew there were so many zoos?) I’ve heard this week will be busy too… Let’s hope I misunderstood that. She also went to the animal shelter, where there was a little cat who wouldn’t stop purring and an older one who wanted to be a dog– he wagged his tail, did play-bows, had puppy-dog eyes, loved belly rubs, and even wanted to jump in the sink while the water was running!

She also had a visit to the nature center, but that deserves a whole new post…

(Official) Zoo Day #1

Yesterday the humans left for the whole day AGAIN. I thought they were done with this kind of thing! But Isabella and another volunteer went and set up a table with butterfly wings on it in the butterfly house and taught everyone who came up to the table about butterflies. This went on for a few hours. Now, the only thing I know about butterflies is they’re fun to chase.

Then after lunch she paired up with a different volunteer and they set up a table with charts in the sea otter building. The charts were so guests could watch the sea otters and write down everything they saw the otters doing. However, the sea otters were being lazy, and nobody saw any.

Eventually Isabella came home, and I’m hoping that’s the end of the zoo days.
